5 Red Wines You Should Drink This Autumn

The change in season brings about a desire for something different. As the darker and damper nights creep in, those glou glou juice bombs we have been reaching for all summer just don't hit the spot anymore and we find ourselves craving something with more depth and texture.

These are five medium bodied red wines that will appeal to your sense this Autumn

1. Trait Gamay 2021 by Remi Sedes

Gamay from this part of Loire can really shine and Remi knows how to make that happen. The grapes were de-stemmed so you can expect a bit of body but the press was so gentle it allows the variety to showcase its delicate complexity. The underlying earthiness really suits an Autumn evening on the sofa

2. Triplette 2023 by Sense Pressa

Grenache and a touch of Carignan from winemaker Marius Long's best plot of vines down in the Corbières mountains on the border between Languedoc and Roussillon. Lovely fresh acidity alongside red and stone fruit (!) flavours creates something quite unique. If you closed your eyes, I don't think you would sure of the colour of this wine.

3. Totem 2023 by Mataburro

Another red wine from the south of France, this time near Perpignan. You would normally expect a blend of old vine Mouvedre and Grenache to be a monster of a wine but as with all the Mataburro cuvées, winemaker Laurent displays a deftness of touch and produces something elegant and refined.

4. Rosso 2022 by Lamoresca

A blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato grapes grown in Sicily's interior region. Dark fruit flavours, dried Mediterranean herbs and a touch of volcanic minerals combine to create a dynamic and expressive wine that makes us think of the darker evenings. The grapes are grown at 500m above sea level which beings balancing acidity and freshness.

5. Scaramusc 2022 by Angol d'Amig

Red Lambrusco with plenty of body, texture, dark fruit aromas and an earthy, irony backbone. Food friendly sparkling wine, particularly great with pizza.

Happy drinking!
