Grape Variety: Xarel Lo, Macabeu
Producer: Amós Bañeres
Region: Penedès, Catalunya, Spain
Wild Scale: 3/5
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Organic (uncertified) grapes were hand harvested and Macabeu underwent direct press whilst Xarel Lo spent 10 days in amphora on the skins. Fermentation with indigenous yeast. Bottled with no fining or filtration and just a touch of sulphur.
This Wine: Still, natural white wine that is easy drinking. Not too much intensity but enjoyable green apple and citrus notes. Peach-colour in the glass from the touch of skin contact. Very dry. Pairs well with light dishes such as fish or salad.
Notes on the Winemaker: Amós Bañeres was a pharmacist in a previous life before relocating to Vilafranca in the Penedès region of Catalonia where he works out of a tiny winery. He grows indigenous grape varieties usually used for Cava production and makes wine with as little intervention as possible.
