Wild Scale 4/5
Winemaking: Riesling grapes are taken from a single plot known as Brandluft which exposed and South East facing. The soil is is clay and limestone with areas of quartz and sand. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in old barrels on lees for 22 months.
This Wine: A very serious Riesling with powerful and intense citrus aromas. Stands up against certified Grand Cru Rieslings from the surrounding area.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. All of Jean-Pierre's wines are in very high demand but we particularly love his skin-contact cuvees which is a winemaking method rarely seen in Alsace.
