Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Organic Macabeo and Grenache Gris grapes from 70 year old bush vines were hand harvested whilst very ripe. Fermented with indigenous yeast and then aged in an old barrel for 18 months with no topping up. Then aged for a further 12 months in fibreglass. Bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural white wine with full body and a round character. Incredibly complex apricot, herbal and mint flavours. Some oxidative notes come from the fact the barrel wasn't topped up during ageing. Best with food. Only 250 bottles produced!
Notes on the Winemaker: La Voluta is the natural wine project of Jean Benoit Vivequain and Anna Rubio who now reside in the village of Cucugnan after meeting on the other side of the world in New Zealand where they were both learning about winemaking. They focus on old-vine Grenache Noir which is indigenous to the wild and rugged terrain between Cucugnan and Maury.
