Grape Variety: Godello, Malvasia, Doña Blanca and an unknown, mystery variety
Producer: Bodega La Senda (Diego Losada)
Region: El Bierzo, Castile y Leon, Spain
Wild Scale: 4/5
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: 10 days skin contact before fermentation in old, open-top barrels with indigenous yeast. Aged for 8 months in French oak. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: This is a natural orange wine with a floral, aromatic character balanced with delicate fruit. Diego named this wine after the psychedelic rock song by Iron Butterfly which was the first he learnt to play on the guitar. The label has references to the famous painting "The Garden of Earthly Delights" by Hieronymus Bosch.
Notes on the Winemaker: Diego Losada is very much an outsider in his hometown of Ponferrada in the North of Spain and this was the case even before winemaking. Now he creates wines that stand out amongst the crowd in Bierzo with authentic and true reflections of the region. We have visited him a couple of times to see his vineyards and help him in the winery, always to the soundtrack of Metallica!
