Grape Varieties: Chardonnay
Producer: Chateau Barouillet (Vincent Alexis)
Region: Bergerac, France
Certified Organic
Wild Scale: 1/5
Winemaking: Organic grapes were hand harvested and underwent direct press before fermentation in stainless steel tank with indigenous yeast. The wine was ages for 9 months in oak barrels. Bottled with no fining or filtration and just a small amount of sulphur.
This Wine: A still white wine that is smooth and buttery thanks to the use of oak. Reminded us of lemon biscuits. The oak character is subtle and gives the impression of creaminess and the wine still has very fresh acidity running through it.
Notes on the Winemaker: Vincent Alexis is an eighth generation winemaker in the Bergerac / Monbazillac region south of Bordeaux who makes superb value wines from local varieties.
