Winemaking: Organic (uncertified) grapes were hand harvested and crushed before spending some time on the skins. Fermented with indigenous yeast. Bottled with no fining, filtration and just a small amount of sulphur.
This Wine: A natural skin-contact wine but still light in the glass. The aromatics from the Gewurtz balance well with the citrus fruit from the Riesling. Definitely more of a gastronomic wine that would suit fragrant food dishes such as Thai.
Notes on the Winemaker: Lucas Rieffel is situated in the area of Mittelbergheim, not far from another of our favourite producers, Jean-Pierre Rietsch. They are part of the same movement focussed on producing wines with minimal intervention and utilising techniques such as skin maceration in the winemaking process.
