Grape Variety: Pinot Gris
Producer: Domaine Rietsch
Region: Mittelbergheim, Alsace, France
Wild Scale: 4/5
Winemaking: 14 day whole bunch maceration followed by fermentation with indigenous yeast. Ages on the lees for 6 months in old barrels and then filtered (vegan friendly). Very low sulphur.
The wine: A very unique creation that almost drinks like a light red. Fresh and dry.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. All of Jean-Pierre's wines are in very high demand but we particularly love his skin-contact cuvees which is a winemaking method rarely seen in Alsace.
