Grape Variety: Cartoixá Vermell
Producer: Partida Creus
Region: Catalunya, Spain
Wild Scale: 4/5
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Organic/Biodynamic grapes (uncertified) were hand harvested before fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Aged in tank for a further 7 months. Bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: A unique skin contact wine made with a pink mutation of the Xarel Lo grape, therefore this is technically and orange wine but it has a slight pink hue. Salted strawberries immediately come to mind on the first sip with accompanying citrus and floral aromas. Delicious!
Notes on the Winemaker: Partida Creus is the project of Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa, Italians who were working in Barcelona before moving to the remote village of Bonastre in search of a quieter life surrounded by nature. Here they began producing wine from old, almost extinct Catalan grape varieties such as Sumoll and uncovered ancient winemaking techniques by speaking to old winemakers in the area.
