Grape Variety: Alicante Bouschet
Producer: Bodega La Senda (Diego Losada)
Region: El Bierzo, Castilla y León, Spain
Wild Scale: 4/5
Winemaking: Organic Alicante Bouschet grapes come from a single plot and were harvested by hand. Crushed and macerated for 5 days. Fermented with indigenous yeast in chestnut barrel where it also ages for 11 months. No filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red wine with medium body and high acidity. Notes of red and black fruit with dried herbs and a touchy of earthiness. Only 1300 bottles made.
Notes on the Winemaker: Diego Losada is very much an outsider in his hometown of Ponferrada in the North of Spain and this was the case even before winemaking. Now he creates wines that stand out amongst the crowd in Bierzo with authentic and true reflections of the region. We have visited him a couple of times to see his vineyards and help him in the winery, always to the soundtrack of Metallica!
