Grape Variety: Gewurtztraminer

Producer: Pierre Weber

Region: Husseren-les-Châteux, Alsace, France

Wild Scale: 5/5

Vegan friendly wine

Winemaking: Organic Gewurtztraminer grapes from Grand Cru classified vineyards were hand harvested and underwent whole bunch maceration for 2 weeks. Pressed into old oak barrels and aged here for 9 months. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.

This Wine: We are always big fans of the Gewurtztraminer grapes, especially in a skin-contact, dry style but this really blew our minds when we first tasted. The classic rose notes of the grape variety have transformed to something more tea-like which partners well with the complex tropical fruit notes. Very special wine!

Notes on the Winemaker: Pierre Weber is a young winemaker who works with 4 hectares of vines in some of the highest plots in Alsace (400m above sea level) which helps him retain plenty of freshness and acidity in his wines. Most of his grapes come from Grand Cru classified vineyards but he makes no mention of this on the labels. Currently on only his 3rd vintage, it's clear that his future is very bright.
