Grape Variety: 60% Gamay, 25% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay

Producer: Maison en Belles Lies (Pierre Fenals)

Region: Hautes Côtes de Beaune, Burgundy, France

Wild Scale: 4/5

Vegan friendly wine

Winemaking: Biodynamic (uncertified) grapes were hand harvested and underwent carbonic maceration (indigenous yeast) for 30 days before ageing in old barrels for 15 months. Bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.

This Wine: An unusual Burgundy (hence the name) made from a mixture of red and white grapes. A unique glimpse into the region's past when field blends ("en foule") like this were common. Light and perfumed with notes of both citrus and red fruit. Absolutely delicious.

Notes on the Winemaker: Pierre Fenals became intrigued with Biodynamic farming after picking up one of Rudolph Steiner's books at a Parisian flea market. He was working in marketing for fashion houses at the time but the subject interested him so much that he eventually ended up making biodynamic wine in some of the most prestigious vineyards of the world. I had lunch with him in Puligny-Montrachet on my first ever trip to Burgundy and was lucky enough to taste many of his amazing wines in his cellar. (Andrew)
