Grape Variety: Grenache, Mauzac
Producer: Mataburro & 2P Productions collaboration
Region: South West France & Roussillon
Wild Scale: 4/5
Winemaking: Grenache (red) grapes from Mataburro's vineyards in Roussillon and Mauzac (white) grapes were combined in 2P's cellar and fermented with indigenous yeast. Bottled with no filtration or fining. Just a touch of sulphur on bottling.
This Wine: A pet nat (naturally sparkling wine) made from red and white juice that results in a juice bomb!
Notes on the Winemaker: Mataburro is the project of natural winemakers Laurent Roger and Melissa Ingrand in Rivesaltes which isn't far from Perpignan in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of Southern France. They make wines with amazing freshness considering the warm Mediterranean climate. Mataburro means Donkey Killer which refers to a railway that runs through the vineyard. When it opened in 1910, a train sadly killed 2 donkeys on the first day.
Fanny Papelard & Romain Plageoles make up 2P Productions, a married couple focussed on making natural wine in the South West of France. Romain comes from a prestigious winemaking family in Gaillac.
