Grape Variety: Blaufrankisch, Merlot, Zweigelt
Producer: Markus Altenburger
Region: Burgenland, Austria.
Wild Scale: 4/5
Certified organic
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Organic grapes were harvested by hand. Fermentation with indigenous yeast. No fining or filtration and just a touch of sulphur on bottling.
This Wine: Natural red wine with light to medium body. Bright and fresh with great acidity. Delicate red and black cherry flavours with a hint of pepper and something earthy. A bargain.
Notes on the Winemaker: Markus Altenburger oversees 12 hectares of vines in the Leithaberg appellation in the north of Burgenland, not far from Hungary. He is considered an expert of the Blaufrankisch grape but also grows other local and international varieties. He took over his family estate in 2001 and hasn't looked back, converting all vineyards to organic and biodynamic.
