Grape Variety: Carignan / Grenache
Producer: La Voluta
Region: Cucugnan, Roussillon, France
Wild Scale: 5/5
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Wine made from organic Carignan grapes in 2017 was blended with organic Grenache grape juice from 2018 and aged in barrels left outside in the sun to create a oxidative, rancio style of wine. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: This wine has been deliberately exposed to the sun and oxygen in order to develop intense flavours of nuts and dried fruit. The bottle is probably best shared with at least 4 of you and would be a good accompaniment to cheese.
Notes on the Winemaker: La Voluta is the natural wine project of Jean Benoit Vivequain and Anna Rubio who now reside in the village of Cucugnan after meeting on the other side of the world in New Zealand where they were both learning about winemaking. They focus on old-vine Grenache Noir which is indigenous to the wild and rugged terrain between Cucugnan and Maury.
