Les Pouches Maceration 2018
Grape Variety: Chenin Blanc
Producer: François Saint-Lô
Region: Berrie, Loire, France
Wild Scale: 5/5
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Organic Chenin Blanc grapes were harvested by hand. 20 day whole bunch maceration and fermentation with wild yeast. Aged for 24 months in old oak barrels. Unfiltered and bottled with zero sulphur.
This Wine: This 2018 vintage of this wine is something quite special. Everything is balanced perfectly with high acidity, great intensity and an abundance of different fruits. We loved the tangerine element that shines through (something we have noticed before on other high quality, skin-contact Chenin Blanc wines). It would certainly pair well with food but we loved just experiencing everything it had to offer without other distractions getting in the way. Unique and one to take your time over.
Notes on the Winemaker: Francois is part of a collective in a small village called Berrie (not far from Saumur) who have looked to restore buildings in their hometown and breathe new life into the surroundings by creating a community of natural winemakers. He is uncompromising in his approach to the craft and avoids using sulphur at any stage as he believes it limits the potential of his wines.
