Grape Variety: 85% Macabeo, 10% Xarel Lo, 5% Sumoll
Producer: La Salada (Toni Carbó & Anna Serra)
Region: Penedès, Catalunya, Spain
Wild Scale: 5/5
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Organic Macabeo, Xarel Lo and Sumoll grapes were hand harvested and crushed by foot before spending 2 weeks on the skins. Fermented with indigenous yeast in concrete tanks and bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: A natural orange wine with loads of acidity and fresh citrus fruit as well as some red apple notes thanks to the addition of juice from the red grape Sumoll. Very unusual but delicious and well balanced. The name means 'The Happy Farmer' in local dialect.
Notes on the Winemaker: Toni Carbó is one half of the esteemed Cava house (with friend Ramon Jané), Mas Candí in Penedés. He started his own project La Salada with partner Anna Serra in 2012 to focus on making wines like his Grandfather used to. They are some of most sought after as they provide an authentic and honest expression of Catalan terroir.
