Grape Variety: 80% Marselan (a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache), 10% Barbera, 10% white juice
Producer: Vinyes Tortuga (Dido & Jurriaan)
Region: Rabós, Catalunya, Spain
Wild Scale: 5/5
Winemaking: Grapes we de-stemmed by hand (!) and then fermented in fibreglass and stainless steel tanks. No filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: A still, natural red wine on the wilder side. Funkiness, earthiness and deep black fruit flavours are all balanced well with high acidity. Medium bodied but not tannic. Great with full flavour dishes.
Notes on the Winemaker: Dido and Jurriaan hail from the Netherlands and travelled the world learning winemaking before settling right in the North of Catalunya not far from the French border. They crowdfunded their vineyard purchase and are now on their 2nd vintage making wine that is full of joy. We visited in 2019 and listened to records in their winery whilst tasting samples. Each cuvee has a different reference to one of their favourite musicians.
