Winemaking: Organic Pinot Noir and Zweigelt grapes were hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeast. Bottled with no filtration or fining and just a small amount of sulphur.
This Wine: A natural red wine, light in body and high in acidity. The name Ponzichter means "bean grower" and was given to a minority of German speaking winemakers in the Hungarian region of Sopron who used to grow vegetables (mainly beans) in between the vines. In turn this helped maintain biodiversity in the vineyard which led to healthy vines and grapes.
Notes on the Winemaker: Franz Weninger grew up in Burgenland, the region in East Austria that borders Hungary. He runs two wineries, one in each country using biodynamic techniques with a deep commitment to the environment. His wines offer outstanding value for such high quality.
