Grape Variety: Trousseau
Producer: Bodega La Senda (Diego Losada)
Region: El Bierzo, Castilla y León, Spain
Wild Scale: 4/5
Winemaking: Trousseau grapes from old bush vines were harvested by hand. Crushed and macerated for 4 to 5 days. Fermented in chestnut vessels and aged for 10 months in old french oak barrels. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red wine with light to medium body. Perfectly balanced with a nice hint of integrated funk on the nose. Red berry fruit, great acidity and a hint of smoke. Only 911 bottles made.
Notes on the Winemaker: Diego Losada is very much an outsider in his hometown of Ponferrada in the North of Spain and this was the case even before winemaking. Now he creates wines that stand out amongst the crowd in Bierzo with authentic and true reflections of the region. We have visited him a couple of times to see his vineyards and help him in the winery, always to the soundtrack of Metallica!
