Grape Variety: Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris
Producer: Domaine Rietsch
Region: Mittelbergheim, Alsace, France
Vegan friendly wine
Wild Scale: 4/5
Winemaking: Hand harvested grapes with a 22 day maceration before fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in old barrels for 8 months and bottled with no filtration or fining and just a small amount of sulphur.
This Wine: One of our favourite reds from last year returns but this year with the introduction of some white juice courtesy of Pinot Gris. Not exactly 'Tout' rouge anymore but still absolutely delicious! Very drinkable which makes it ideal that it comes in a litre bottle.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. All of Jean-Pierre's wines are in very high demand but we particularly love his skin-contact cuvees which is a winemaking method rarely seen in Alsace.
