Vegan friendly wine

Winemaking: Organic grapes are harvested by hand and de-stemmed before spending a month long maceration. Fermented with indigenous yeast (partly in stainless steel and partly in old oak barrels). No filtration or fining. Small amount of sulphur added on bottling.

This Wine: A natural wine that was featured as one of the world's top 30 orange wines in the June 2020 edition of Decanter magazine. The Semillon grapes come from 100 year old vines and the resulting wine has serious herbaceous and medicinal notes upon opening before a strong dried stone fruit character emerges. Bold but delicate at the same time. Molino del Ciego was the old name for a small town in the region where the native Mapuche people defeated the Spanish in a battle over 400 years ago. The winemaker Roberto has Mapuche ancestry so names many of his wines after historical towns, most of which sadly no longer exist. It's a way of keeping the memory of the native people alive.

Notes on the Winemaker: Roberto Henríquez hails from Concepción, Chile but travelled and worked with winemakers in Canada, South Africa and the Loire Valley before returning home to concentrate on the traditional Pipeño methods of winemakers in Chile. He visited us at the bar in early 2020 to share some of his latest magical creations but had to settle for a Millwall game as Arsenal were playing away that weekend :/
