Grape Variety: Sylvaner (Silvaner)
Producer: Domaine Rietsch
Region: Mittelbergheim, Alsace, France
Vegan friendly wine
Wild Scale: 3/5
Winemaking: Hand harvested grapes underwent fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in old barrels for 7 months on the lees and bottled with no filtration or fining and just a small amount of sulphur.
This Wine: A natural white wine with great freshness and salinity. Mineral notes with a touch of tangerine. Very clean and precise. The name means old vines as it comes from old Sylvaner plots.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. All of Jean-Pierre's wines are in very high demand but we particularly love his skin-contact cuvees which is a winemaking method rarely seen in Alsace.
