Grape Variety: 99% Tempranillo, 0.5% Garnacha, 0.5% Viura (Macabeo)
Producer: El Mozo
Region: Rioja, Spain
Certified Organic with Biodynamic practices
Wild Scale: 2/5
Winemaking: Organic grapes were harvested by hand and then fermented in old oak barrels with indigenous yeast. The wine was aged on the lees and then bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur. No added sulphur.
This Wine: A natural red wine which is dry and medium bodied. Very fresh for a Rioja with good acidity. Red fruit flavours and good complexity. Best with food.
Notes on the Winemaker: El Mozo is the natural winemaking project of Gorka and Itxaso who both hail from families with viticultural history in Rioja. The pair took over Ixtaso's family winery in 2010 and steered it away from industrialisation that had been happening in the region for many years. They now create artisan Rioja wines, not something easy to find.
