Grape Variety: Tempranillo, Cariñena (Carignan)
Producer: Clos Lentiscus (Manel Avinyo)
Region: Sant Pere de Ribes, Catalunya, Spain
Wild Scale: 5/5
Winemaking: Organic grapes (uncertified) were hand harvested before fermentation with indigenous yeast. Bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: A fruity and juicy red wine that has structure but is still fresh. High acidity and minerality keep things fresh. Reductive notes of smoke and flint give a nice funky edge. Comes in a litre bottle which is always handy.
Notes on the Winemaker: Clos Lentiscus is the project of Manel Avinyo who started making wine in 2002 and has worked naturally since 2010. He uses honey from his bees to kickstart the second fermentation in his sparkling wines.
