5 Chilled Reds to Drink this Summer

Chilled red wine is still very much having its moment in the UK and that's fine by us. We have picked out 5 of our current favourites but just remember not too drink them too cold as you don't want to miss out on the complexity of flavours that these bottles offer.

Anne Paillet - Lethal Weapanne 2023

Let's get started with a brand new wine to the UK. Our good friend Raph has just started importing wine to this country and I was with him when we met Anne Paillet at a fair down in Montpellier last year. It was hard to believe no one was bringing her wines over the channel as they are so full of character and offer great value for money. Lethal Weapanne is her huge field blend of red and white varieties that is light in body but shows a great concentration of herbs and fruit.  Really fun!

Romuald Valot - Intrusion 2025

Next to Romuald Valot in Beaujolais who makes some of the best value natural wines around. He often loves getting creative with his combinations of grape varieties and winemaking styles and that is certainly the case here. Pinot Noir skins were infused into Chardonnay juice to produce a unique wine, red in colour but bursting with both citrus and red berry flavours. It's super fresh and has a touch of candied cherry to it. Delicious!

Mont de Marie - Anathem 2024

All the wines from Mont de Marie are criminally underrated but the 2024 vintages have recently arrived and...wow! It's hard to express what an amazing wine you are getting here for just £21. It's a light and delicate blend of Aramon and Carginan grown down in the Languedoc and clocks in at just 11.5% alcohol. Unbeatable value.

Amélie Vuillet & Sébastien Jacques - Méli-Mélo 2023

If you are feeling fancy then then look no further than this red and white rarity from the Jura. Made from a blend of all the varieties that Amelie and Sebastien grow (think Ploussard, Chardonnay, Pinot, Trousseau, Savagnin and more!), it's full of elegance and finesse. A rare "allocation" wine that we can only buy a limited number of each year. 

Ham Street - Pinot Noir Pinot Gris 2024

Finally we arrive back on home soil with a new release from Ham Street in Kent and in our opinion its one of their best yet. No prizes for guessing the grape varieties but it pours a beautiful ruby red in the glass and shows a subtle complexity of fresh berries, minerals and floral touches. Made in very small quantities so don't leave it too late.
