Lambrusco Lovers Rejoice!

Lambrusco Lovers Rejoice!

After a couple of dry months on the Lambrusco front, much to the disappointment of many of our customers, we are happy to announce we have new arrivals from a couple of our favourite producers in Emilia-Romagna

First up, new vintages have landed from Angol d'Amig aka Marco Lanzotti. Based in Modena, he produces a wide range of cuvées all made from local grape varieties but these are our favourites. Scaramusc 2023 is a sparkling red which we have been selling for a few years now but this is the best vintage yet. Still showing a rustic edge, the balance is beautiful and showcases a combination of dark fruit, wild herbs and a hint of iron. Great as an aperitif but also wonderful with pizza!

Spoma? 2023 is the pink counterpart which offers more finesse and subtlety. Raspberries, lemon and delicate floral notes. Again, great by itself or with food. I'm dreaming of lunch by the pool. Any pool.

Now just round the corner to Claudio Plessi is Castelnuovo Rangone who feels like one of the masters of Lambrusco. We fell in love with his wines when they first came to the UK just over a year ago so we are excited to get two vintages of the same wine back in stock. We poured Tiepido 2021 by the glass at Highbury Library and it was a huge hit. This is the sophisticated end of Lambrusco with layers of complexity and a great balance between dark fruit and earthy, mineral characteristics.

Tiepido 2017 proves that these wines can get even more interesting and unique with age. What it has lost in fizz, it makes up for in class and complexity. Developed black fruit and minerals but still with plenty of beautiful acidity. Also a very good price for a wine that is now 8 years old. Grab a bottle of each and geek out with your friends?!?

Lambrusco Summer, happy drinking!
