New from Vinyer de la Ruca
We have just received new wines from Manuel di Vecchia Staraz aka Vinyer de la Ruca. He produces very small quantities from parcels of vines around the Mediterranean town of Bayuls-sur-Mer close to the French-Spanish border. Since moving from his native Italy, he has developed a cult following and has helped this part of Roussillon become somewhat of a hotbed for natural wine. He works out of Le Neuf Cave, a cellar shared by some of the most exciting winemakers in France.
Here is a quick overview of what we have in stock at time of writing;
SILVANO 2024
This is a short maceration of Grenache Noir which results in a rosé with a lovely complexity of floral notes alongside bright, red fruits. Less than 500 bottles produced.
HAPAX 2024
Grenache Blanc, Gris and Noir all combine to create a peachy coloured wine with a pink hue. Aged in amphora vessels, the has a beautiful texture and a deep complexity of fruits with a strong mineral backbone. 623 bottles produced.
ELLITTICO 2024
Red wine with a light to medium body made from a single plot of Carignan and Grenache grapes. Full of dark minerals, this is wonderfully balanced and shows a great purity if fruit followed by a subtle, smokey finish. 400 bottles produced.
We have also just received a couple of wines from Les Âines Ailés, the project of Francesco Pesci who previously worked with Manuel at Vinyer de la Ruca. He went in his own direction a couple of years ago and is now making wines from a couple of his own vineyards as well as with fruit from nearby organic growers.
ARLEQUIN 2024
A white wine made primarily from Grenache Blanc and Vermentino but with an added splash of Muscat. Salty pineapple alongside other stone fruits and delicate aromatics, this is full of Southern French character.
PIERROT 2024
Red wine made from Grenache and Carignan. Light to medium bodied with perfumed fruit, balanced acidity and a pleasant, silky texture. Superb value for money.
So there you go, a chance to bring some Mediterranean sunshine into your life as we head into the winter months
Happy drinking!
