New Rietsch!
We are always excited to receive wine from Jean-Pierre Rietsch in Alsace. Situated in the village of Mittelbergheim, he is the master of producing natural wines that showcase both precise and rustic characteristics. The wide array of grape varieties and winemaking styles that he works with means there is always something exciting to discover, and this time we are even lucky enough to experience a brand new cuvée...
Let's start with the return of an absolute favourite. For a long time, this skin contact Gewurztraminer cuvée flew under the radar but in recent years, people have really started to celebrate this beautiful and elegant expression of the already unique grape variety. Dried roses, subtle hints of lychee and other tropical fruits alongside fresh acidity. Delightful.
Next up, a brand new cuvée from Jean-Pierre who has blended 4 contrasting vintages of top class Riesling to create a complex and balanced wine with a rich and full character. This is a special, gastronomic bottle that will keep getting better with time in bottle if you can be patient. Citrus, stone fruit, flowers and minerals.
Also known as Roter Traminer, Savagnin Rose is a rare, pink-skinned grape variety that is technically classified as white. Jean-Pierre uses skin contact to bring some of this pinky hue and unique flavour profile to this cuvée. Whilst being a cousin to the Gewurztraminer variety, you can expect much less spice and aromatics with more of a focus on subtle and mineral characteristics.
The return of another cult classic and once again we are treated to a new label. We've gone from Parrot to Peacock! I love how the labels change regularly, even if it sometimes makes it hard to remember exactly what's what. This is slightly more concentrated than the 2023 vintage with some earthy, smokey and medicinal notes alongside that signature bright red fruit. A chillable, light red wine that goes down fast!
After a 2023 hiatus, it's great to see the return of the Pinot Noir cuvée. Offering a deeper and more complex profile than Tout Rouge with some darker fruit being the focus, this offers amazing value for money and once again, will keep getting better with time. More fruit forward than the Stierkopf Pinot Noir cuvées that we also have in stock at time of writing.
We have so many other amazing back vintages and hard to fine cuvées from Jean-Pierre which you can browse here
Happy drinking!
