Sophie Evans
Sophie Evans has been making waves in the British wine world for a couple of years now and for good reason. Whilst viticulture in this country has taken great leaps over the last decade, a criticism that still holds some weight is that winemaking can be too risk adverse which results in uninspiring bottles that can lack character but still come with a hefty price tag.
Sophie's wines are anything but. Always looking to let the grapes express themselves as much as possible and allow the wines to reflect the vintage and the terroir fully, her creations continue to push the boundaries for natural wine in the UK.
We are excited to receive wines from Sophie Evans' second vintage. Here's a breif overview of what we currently have ins tock;
PINOT GRIS 2023
The return of Sophie's signature cuvée, this is a 5 day maceration of Pinot Gris from her own vines. Reflecting the vintage honestly, this is a lighter style than the 2022. A mineral driven wine which has less of that pinky Pinot Gris colour and instead feels more orange/white. Great concentration whilst only being 9.5% alcohol. Only 240 bottles produced.
PINOT PINOT 2023
A blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, this is a new cuvée made with fruit from organic producer Matt Gregory based in Leicestershire. His wines often have a distinctive smokey note so maybe it's no surprise to find that same character here. Almost Mezcal like, this drinks like a light red and is one of the most unique English wines we have ever tasted!
We also have a couple bottles left in stock of the following wines;
ROTLING 2023
An ode to Sophie's time in Germany, this was made In Franconia with fruit from her friend Emily of Wein Goutte. A blend of white Muller Thurgau and red Domina grapes which results in a beautifully textured, hazy rosé with both fruity and savoury notes.
PINOT NOIR DEMIJOHN 2022
This is the second iteration of Sophie's 2022 Pinot Noir which was aged in glass demi-john and spent an extra year in bottle before release. Full of crunchy berries and peppery spice. Once these last couple of bottles go, that's it!
Happy drinking!
