Wine Club 33 Winners
Two nights, same wines, two different winners! On the Wednesday, Tiepido 2017 ran out as the winner. On paper, an 8 year old Lambrusco might raise some eye brows but on the palate, wow! Super fresh and alive but with dark and developed black fruit, this went down a storm. Veteran Lambrusco winemaker Claudio Plessi really does know what he is doing apparently.
On night two, another local legend, this time in Alsace, won the vote. We champion Jean Pierre Rietsch all the time so it was nice to see that we are not the only ones who love his wines. The latest vintage of his skin contact Gewurztraminer, Demoiselle 2023 was tasting sublime and even won over some wine clubbers who thought they disliked orange wine as a style. Love to see it!

We kicked off with a brand new arrival from young winemaking duo Peltier Ravineau in the Loire village of Cheverny. Balle Dans Le Pied 2024 is a light and peppery red made from Gamay, Côt and Cabernet Franc and it served as a nice intro for the evening. Easy drinking but characterful and all at a great price.
Next up, we treated drinkers to our latest collaboration with Bodega La Senda and Eighteen86. CHAMPIONES! 2023/2024 was tasting more evolved since it arrived a few weeks ago and there was a really nice depth of dark fruit and spice. We are excited to see how this red and white blend from Bierzo develops further over the coming months
MBXXII 2022 was the real crowd splitter on both nights. We wrote about this wild Muscadet by Les Chants Jumeaux in our recent Hidden Gems post. Half the crowd rejoiced and the other half did not. I love it when wines get this reaction. It causes so much discussion between everyone and I honestly believe we need much more division in our everyday life so this serves us well. 5 on the wild scale, it's not for everyone but it's not not for everyone either.
La Luna Blanc 2024 followed which is a white wine from Bruno Duchene down in the Mediterranean town of Banyuls-sur-Mer. Those that prefer more precise and straight wines really enjoyed whilst the MBXXII lovers found it not exciting enough. Again, wine teaches us that the world is very much different strokes for different folks.
