Les Foulards Rouges
Grape Variety: Carignan
Producer: Les Foulards Rouges (Jean-Francois Nicq)
Region: Albères, Roussillon, France
Wild Scale: 3/5
Vegan friendly wine
13% alcohol
Winemaking: Organic Carignan grapes were harvested by hand. Whole bunch maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged for 6 months in old barrels before bottling with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red wine with a light to medium body. This is a delicate but deep expression of the Carignan grape with balanced, fresh acidity. Dark fruit flavours with uplifting spice. I really loved Jean-Francois' understated wines.
Notes on the Winemaker: Les Foulards Rouge is the natural wine project of Jean-François Nicq in Montesquieu-des-Albères, Roussillon, right near the border with Spain. He grew up in Northern France but moved to this area after meeting natural winemaking legends such as Thierry Puzelat (Clos du Tue-Boeuf) and Eric Pfiffering (L'Anglore) who encouraged him to start his own path in the viticulture world. He loves making delicate and balanced wines that reflect the Pyrenees terroir.
