Winemaking: Organic Sylvaner grapes were harvested by hand. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast after long, slow press of 6 hours. Aged on full lees in old barrels until bottling. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natura white wine that is easy drinking but with some complex layers of flavours including quince, orange, lemon and elderflower. 4000 bottles produced. The third vintage of this cuvée from Yann using the underrated Sylvaner grape which is indigenous to Alsace and Germany.
Notes on the Winemaker: Yann Durrmann lives in the village of Andlau in the Bas-Rhin department of Alsace. His parents decided to become full time winemakers after the previous generation had explored viticulture as a hobby. They managed to acquire amazing plots on the steep slopes of the Vosges mountains that were not in high demand as farmers looked for sites that could be easily accessed with machines. Since 1998, the vineyards have been farmed organically and in 2007, Yann began to take over the running of the domaine and decided that wines should be produced without sulphur additions, something his parents were very open minded about. The Durrmann cuvées are now in high demand, always recognised for their ability to show honest and pure expressions of Alsace terroir along with their great value.
