Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes were harvested by hand. Fermentation in whole bunches with indigenous yeast in fibreglass tanks. Aged for 10 months in a combination of old oak barrels and tanks. No filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red with with a medium body. Concentrated with bright, energetic fruit and balanced with a dark, earthy undertone. A wild and very much alive wine that punches above its price point. Great on its own but also versatile food pairing. Château Roulant is the name Benoit gives his caravan and it translates as 'Castle on wheels'!
THIS WINE WAS VOTED AS THE BEST TASTING WINE AT HIGHBURY LIBRARY WINE CLUB IN JULY 2024
Notes on the Winemaker: If you imagine the romantic idea of a natural winemaker, Benoit Camus is pretty much it. He lives in a caravan between his vines in the south of Beaujolais and farms 4 hectares of Gamay and Chardonnay grapes. He makes natural wines in the truest sense which have a rustic character but still manage to display precision at the same time and always offer great value.
