Producer: Thierry Hesnault
Region: Jasnières, Loire, France
Wild Scale: 4/5

Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes from two plots of old vines near Touraine were harvested by hand. Whole bunch maceration for 2 months and fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in old wooden barrels for 15 months. Bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red wine with a light to medium structure. Complex bight and dark fruit, perfectly balanced acidity and soft tannins. Drinking very well now but will get even better in the cellar.
Notes on the Winemaker: Thierry Hesnault makes natural wine in Jasnières, north of the Loire river. He worked with the likes of Jean-Pierre Robinot before he started making his own wine in 2009 after picking up old parcels of Pineau d'Aunis, Chenin Blanc and Gamay. His age-worthy cuvées have developed a cult following over the last 15 years and are known for displaying focussed fruit and minerals that speak of the land from which they are produced.
