Grape Variety: Gamay
Producer: Domaine Joseph Chamonard (Jean-Claude Chanudet)
Region: Beaujeu, Beaujolais, France
Wild Scale: 2/5
Vegan friendly wine
13.5% alcohol
Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes were harvested by hand. 20 day maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged for 10 months in old oak barrels. Bottled with no filtration or fining and just a small amount of sulphur.
This Wine: A rare chance to drink a Morgon with 10 years of age! From an exceptional vintage, this is full but fresh. Perfectly balanced with ripe dark fruit, earthy minerals and soft tannins.
Notes on the Winemaker: Joseph Chamonard was a pioneer of chemical free viticulture in the 1960s. When he passed away in 1990, his son-in-law Jean-Claude Chanudet took over duties. Friends with Marcel Lapierre, the duo were key in the early natural wine movement but in recent years Jean-Claude has distanced himself from such labels. He also produces wine under the Chateau Cambon label with the partner of the now deceased Marcel.
