Winemaking: Organic Viognier grapes from 40 year old vines were harvested by hand. Direct pressed into stainless steel for fermentation with indigenous yeastand then aged in tank for 6 months. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.

This Wine: Natural white wine made from the Viognier grape. This is one of Le Mazel's most age worthy wines (we have drunk 2001 and 2004 in the last couple of years so we can attest) but it also drinks very well in its youth, just very differently. Usually this cuvée has some residual sugar but the 2023 vintage fermented to dry quite quickly. Peach and apricot are the dominant fruits  followed by a spicy and salty finish.

Notes on the Winemaker: After meeting the famous Beaujolais producer Marcel Lapierre, Gérald Oustric realised it was time to stop selling grapes to the local co-cop in the Ardèche village of Valvignères and instead focus on making authentic wines with personality that reflect the natural environment of the vines. he joined forces with his sister Jocelyn to form Le Mazel which is seen now seen as a legendary domaine of the natural wine movement. The cuvées age amazingly well, particularly Larmande and Mias.
