Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes from a single plot grown in blue schist soils were harvested by hand. Semi-carbonic maceration in stainless steel and fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in old Burgundy barrels for 10 months. No fining, filtration and just a touch of added sulphur on bottling
This Wine: Natural red wine with a deep and complex character that comes from the Roche du Py plot within the Côte du Py. Medium bodied with raspberry and dark fruit flavours alongside touches of violet, earth and spice. A cuvée that Marcel's daughter created in his memory that is best enjoyed with food. Will age very well.
Notes on the Winemaker: Marcel Lapierre took over his family winery in 1973 and became a pioneer of the natural wine scene by eschewing the use of sulphur in the early 80s. He sadly passed away in 2010 but left the winery in Morgon, Beaujolais in good hands. His son and daughter Mathieu and Camille Lapierre now take care of things and continue to promote his values and philosophy.
