Winemaking: Organic Pinot Noir grapes grown on clay limestone soils were hand harvested. 50% remained in whole bunches whilst the rest was pressed directly. 15 day semi-carbonic maceration. Fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Aged in barrel for 8 months. No fining, light filtration, small amount of sulphur on bottling.
This Wine: Natural red wine with a light body. We are so happy to see the return of this cuvée after a couple of years hiatus. Fresh red fruit with a profound blood orange character and earthy, medicinal undertones. There is a touch of refreshing CO2 in the bottle but you can decant if you dislike. Such a bargain and also gets better and better with years in the bottle.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. He has garnered a reputation as a legend in this area and when you try his wines, you'll see why. From rich and complex Riesling to traditional method sparkling wine and skin contact cuvées, his wide range has something for everyone.
