Winemaking: Organic Pinot Noir grapes from 30 year old vines grown on calcareous sandstone soils were hand harvested before 14 day whole bunch, semi-carbonic maceration. Fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Aged in barrel for 9 months. Bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: A rare chance to get your hands on an older vintage of Jean Pierre's Pinot Noir made from the Burgundy clone of the variety. Expect developed fruit, forest floor and earthy aromas.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. He has garnered a reputation as a legend in this area and when you try his wines, you'll see why. From rich and complex Riesling to traditional method sparkling wine and skin contact cuvées, his wide range has something for everyone.
