Winemaking: Organic Zibibbo grapes from different plots of vines grown on pomice-heavy soils (known locally as Soki Soki) were hand harvested. Different maceration times were applied to grapes based on ripeness levels (from 24 hours to 1 week). Fermented with indigenous yeast. 15% perpetual wine was blended in after. Aged in a mixture of old oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. No filtration or fining. Ver small amount of sulphur on bottling.
This Wine: A stunning and balanced expression of Zibibbo that sits somewhere between white and orange wine. Delicate and fresh but with amazing intensity of stone fruit and Mediterranean herbs. Very much the other end of the spectrum to Terra Forte.
Notes on the Winemaker: Tanca Nica is the natural wine project of Francesco Ferreri & Nicoletta Pecorelli who farm just 3 hectares of vines the small and remote island of Pantelleria. Located off the coast of Tunisia, the island is party of Italy and boasts Sicilian cultural traditions. The wines from Tanca Nica are wild but precise and complex, displaying all the signs of sun baked land and Mediterranean influence.
