Winemaking: In 2020, organic Riesling grapes were hand-harvested underwent fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in old barrels for 43 months. This was then added to 2023 wine that had aged in barrels for 8 months. The final blend is 66% 2020, 34% 2023. No filtration or fining. Bottled with very small amount of sulphur (8mg/litre)
This Wine: Rich and round Riesling from a single plot of vines grown on limestone soils. A blend of two different vintages brings layers of complexity and a wild edge. A gastronomic wine that will age very well. Particularly great with fish.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. All of Jean-Pierre's wines are in very high demand but we particularly love his skin-contact cuvees which is a winemaking method rarely seen in Alsace.
