Vegan friendly wine

Winemaking: Organic Grenache grapes from an 80 year old plot that includes a handful of different varieties were harvested by hand and lightly crushed before a 10 day whole bunch maceration. Aged for one year on the lees in old barrels with no topping up. Bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.

This Wine: A special edition of Mataburro's Otium cuvée. Incredibly elegant and fine after the gentle oxidation that the barrel ageing has provided. Fresh and dried red fruit with savoury spice and a herbal finish. A more refined Otium! Laurent only made one barrel.

Notes on the Winemaker: Mataburro is the project of natural winemakers Laurent Roger and Melissa Ingrand in Rivesaltes which isn't far from Perpignan in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of Southern France. They make wines with amazing freshness considering the warm Mediterranean climate. Mataburro means Donkey Killer which refers to a railway that runs through the vineyard. When it opened in 1910, a train sadly killed 2 donkeys on the first day.
