***PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN OXIDATIVE WINE***

Grape Variety: Chenin Blanc

Producer: Chateau Barouillet (Vincent Alexis)

Region: Bergerac, France

15.5% alcohol

Wild Scale: 3/5

Winemaking: Organic Chenin Blanc grapes grown on clay soils were harvested by hand in 2012. Fermentation with indigenous yeast. The wine was aged under a veil of flor for 12 years before bottling (oxidative winemaking). No filtration, fining or added sulphur.

This Wine: A very special bottling from Vincent that has been a long time in the making. Rich and round Chenin made under flor, a layer of dead yeast. You can expect something reminiscent of fino sherry but with all of those umami elements dialled up to 11. Nuts, dried fruit and spice. Any fans of Vin Jaune will love this. A unique and exceptional wine that is best enjoyed with cheese.

Notes on the Winemaker: Vincent Alexis is an eighth generation winemaker in the Bergerac / Monbazillac region south of Bordeaux who makes superb value wines from local varieties. Everything is certified organic and biodynamic and now many cuvées are completely free of added sulphur. He can produce fun and easy-drinking wines such as his iconic Splash Pet Nat as well as more serious styles such as his Pécharment cru red wine. He is a warm and welcoming character so it's always a pleasure to stock his bottles.
