Winemaking: Organic Malvasia grapes from 95 year old vines were harvested by hand and de-stemmed. Fermentation in with indigenous yeast in chestnut barrels. 45 days of skin contact before being moved to old oak barrels for 30 months. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural orange wine that represents a brand new cuvée from Diego. Showcasing the more savoury and spicy side of the Malvasia grape variety along with some developed stone fruits, this is a clean and precise wine with a long finish. I came back to an open bottle on day 2 and it was tasting even better. More concentration! Best served with food. 213 is apparently just a number Diego likes but it's also the title of a Slayer song. Can't be a coincidence.
Notes on the Winemaker: Diego Losada is very much an outsider in his hometown of Ponferrada in the North of Spain and this was the case even before winemaking. Now he creates wines that stand out amongst the crowd in Bierzo with authentic and true reflections of the region. We have visited him a couple of times to see his vineyards and help him in the winery, always to the soundtrack of Metallica!
