Winemaking: Organic Barbera grapes were hand harvested and underwent spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast in old oak barrels. Aged in barrel for 12 months and then bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Francesco's reserve Barbera made with grapes from his best vines. Deep, full bodied red wine with notes of blackcurrant, plum and leather. Meaty but with soft and ripe tannin and balancing acidity. Great for heavier food dishes such as stews or red meat.
Notes on the Winemaker: Francesco Pozzobon hails from the Veneto region but now makes natural wine under the name Tenuta Foresto in Nizza Monferrato which is just south of Asti. he was inspired by the methods of Japanese farmer and philosopher Masunobu Fukuoka and aims to have as little impact on the natural ecosystem as possible. We visited in 2022 to try his wines in barrel which are getting better with every vintage. He previously lived in Highbury before heading back to Italy to start his winemaking project.
