Blaufrankisch
Kekfrankos 2020
Vaskapu
Grape Variety: Blaufrankisch (Kékfrankos)
Producer: Vaskapu (Géza Galán)
Region: Mohács, Hungary
Wild Scale: 3/5
Winemaking: Biodynamic Blaufrankisch grapes were harvested by hand. 50% underwent direct press whilst the remaining 50% was de-stemmed and infused into that juice. Semi-carbonic fermentation with indigenous yeast. Pressed again after 9 days then aged in old barrels. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red wine from the Hungarian town of Mohács, close to the Danube river. A medium bodied red wine with sour cherry, peppery spice and an earthy backbone. Lovely complexity that will develop further with age.
Notes on the Winemaker: Géza Galán started making wine as a pastime in 2015 but by 2018 he had bought a cellar and vineyards near the town of Mohács in the south of Hungary. Inspired by other winemakers in central Europe he farms with biodynamic techniques and has a strong desire to create harmony in his vineyards.
