Crémant d'Alsace 2021/2022
Grape Variety: Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois
Producer: Domaine Rietsch (Jean-Pierre Rietsch)
Region: Mittelbergheim, Alsace, France
Vegan friendly wine
Wild Scale: 2/5
Winemaking: Organic Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Auxerrois grapes were harvested by hand in 2021. Fermentation with indigenous yeast to create a base wine. In 2022 some juice from the new harvest was added to this in order to start a second fermentation in the bottle (traditional Champagne method). Disgorged in October 2023. Very small amount of sulphur added.
This Wine: Jean-Pierre's iconic penguin Crémant returns. One of our favourite sparkling wines, particularly enjoyable at Christmas with family and friends. Very low sulphur but not in any way wild, you can't not love this! Great value too.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. He has garnered a reputation as a legend in this area and when you try his wines, you'll see why. From rich and complex Riesling to traditional method sparkling wine and skin contact cuvées, his wide range has something for everyone.
