Winemaking: Organic Chardonnay grapes harvested by hand were sourced from Ledbury in Herefordshire. De-stemmed and foot crushed before spending 7 days on the skins. Pressed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged on the lees for 8 months before being bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: The follow up to their debut wine, I Saw Custard Creams Fell Like Lightning 2020, this is technically a skin contact wine but drinks more like a white wine with some pleasant texture. Subtle citrus fruit, brioche and a hint of, you guessed it, custard. Another impeccably made wine from the Leisure guys that feels like it will keep getting better with age. Only 350 bottles produced.
Notes on the Winemaker: Leisure Wine is the project of 2 friends passionate about natural wine who simply wanted to have a go themselves. They didn't let the lack of a vineyard get in their way and have been able to source high quality fruit from the UK and Italy so far. The long term plan is to grow their own grapes and continue producing natural wines with no additions.
