Grape Variety: Devín (a cross between Traminer (Gewurtztraminer) and Rotweisser Veltliner

Producer: Pivnica Čajkov (Marek Uhnák)

Region:  Slovakia

Wild Scale: 4/5

Vegan friendly wine

Winemaking: Organic Devín grapes were hand harvested in 2020 and 2021. by hand and crushed before spending around 2 to 3 weeks on the skins when fermentation (with indigenous yeast) began. Aged in old barrels for a year. The 2 vintages were blended and bottled with no fining, filtration and a tiny amount of added sulphur.

This Wine: Natural orange wine with a complex, aromatic character. Displaying dried flowers, citrus peel and honey, this is a wine that should be paired with a fragrant food dish. One for fans of the Gewurtztraminer grape variety. 13% alcohol.

Notes on the Winemaker: Marek Uhnák studied winemaking in the Czech Republic before heading back to his home village of Čajkov in Slovakia to begin making his own wine. His vines are situated in the Caldera hills within the Nitra region which is made up of volcanic soils from the Sitno volcano. He produces wines with organic fruit and no or minimal sulphur additions.
